Ormiston Sudbury Academy, a secondary school situated in Sudbury, Suffolk, has commenced a public consultation process concerning proposals for the demolition and subsequent reconstruction of its primary building. This institution is one of hundreds of schools nationwide slated for redevelopment under the Department for Education’s school rebuilding programme. On its official website, the school stated that the redevelopment is “intended to support the school in achieving an improved environment.” Local residents and various stakeholders are being encouraged to provide their input on these proposals before a formal planning application is submitted to Babergh District Council. The academy has communicated that many of its current buildings are in a “poor physical condition” and have been identified as requiring replacement. The proposed redevelopment plan involves the demolition of the existing main school buildings, including the sports block, the design and technology building, and several other structures. The school intends to replace these with a “single, larger school building and new separate sports block.” The school further elaborated that “These would be designed to optimise the teaching layout and meet the latest standards of energy efficiency.” It is proposed that the new building will be located in the south-western section of the school’s site, with some overlap with the footprint of the existing school building. Bowmer and Kirkland, a company with prior experience in school projects, has been appointed as the main contractor for the initiative. Feedback and ideas regarding the proposals can be submitted online or during a public consultation event at the school on 26 November, from 15:15 to 19:00 GMT.
