An allotment site in Essex will remain operational, according to a volunteer, despite being targeted in an attempted break-in. The Plant Pots and Wellies stated that its allotment site in Harlow incurred £1,000 worth of damage following the incident on Friday, as initially reported by Your Harlow. This community initiative provides activities for individuals with additional needs, along with their families and carers. Project manager Rowen Saunders confirmed that clean-up efforts by volunteers ensured their Christmas grotto event could proceed on Sunday. She explained that the suspect, or suspects, “ploughed down” a fence with a vehicle, but may have been impeded by a mudbank directly behind it. Ms. Saunders remarked, “There was lots of broken glass and their registration number plate had come off – we suspect they just turned back after realising it wasn’t worth it.” She added, “I would say there’s been about £1,000 worth of damage but nothing was taken.” Ms. Saunders confirmed that the incident was reported to police on Saturday. Essex Police was contacted for comment.
