A coastal cliff collapse has partially obstructed a section of promenade and buried several shipping containers under debris. The incident occurred near the lift at East Cliff, Bournemouth, on Thursday around 10:45 GMT. One container was displaced across the pathway, and two others are covered by rubble from the extensive fall, which also caused damage to a catering facility and four beach huts. Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council confirmed that a cordon and fencing had been erected, limiting access to the area. Councillor Richard Herrett, portfolio holder for destination, leisure and commercial operations, stated that the council’s flood and coastal erosion risk management (FCERM) team “were assessing the situation at the site.” This event marks the third landslip in just over a month to affect the cliffside at Bournemouth beach. Previous landslips on 9 and 19 October resulted in approximately 14 beach huts being scattered along the edge of the beach at Durley Chine, situated west of Bournemouth Pier. The group of approximately 50 goats that graze the steep cliffs between West Cliff and Southbourne were unaffected by these landslips.
