A blaze that extended across hundreds of metres of a cliff face was ignited by fireworks. The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving a call regarding the incident near Lindsway Bay in St Ishmael’s, Pembrokeshire, shortly after 22:00 GMT on Thursday. “The fire was caused by fireworks that had been set off along a section of the Wales Coast Path,” the service stated, adding that its crew departed the location just before 02:00 on Friday. The fire service pointed out that deploying fireworks, including sparklers, in a public area is unlawful, and encouraged individuals to attend organised fireworks displays. It further noted that the fire encompassed approximately 180 metres of cliff face and that the coastal cliffs, recognized for their rich biodiversity, sustained damage from the fire. The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service also provided guidance on fireworks safety for Bonfire Night, which occurs on 5 November, and Halloween. This advice included being aware of the dangers linked to fire and Halloween costumes, and considering alternatives to candles, such as flameless battle-operated candles, to achieve “spooky” effects. Additionally, it urged people to ensure fireworks are stored away from children, to only purchase them from reputable retailers, and to adhere to instructions.
