Residents have received notification that it is safe to re-enter their residences following the conclusion of a security alert in County Tyrone. Law enforcement personnel responded to the scene after a report of a suspicious object was made in Maplebrook Court, Coalisland, on Tuesday. Several properties on the street had been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Police officials extended an apology for any inconvenience experienced and expressed gratitude to members of the public for their patience. Local resident Renata Dossantos was unable to “get home” after completing her work earlier in the day, which also prevented her from accessing her uniform for a different job scheduled for this evening. “I have a job tomorrow very early, which again is affecting me with my clothes,” she stated. Ms. Dossantos, who originates from Brazil, had also been “very worried” about her dog, which had been “in the house by himself,” but she successfully retrieved the animal with police assistance. She mentioned that a police officer had advised residents without alternative accommodation to wait at a civic centre, though she intended to travel to her boyfriend’s house in Omagh. During the security alert, SDLP Mid Ulster councillor Malachy Quinn informed BBC News NI that the incident caused “a lot of disruption.” He remarked, “We have schools just finishing and people getting ready to finish their working day.” Councillor Quinn added, “People are annoyed it’s fair to say, obviously if the device ends up being viable people will have been happy to have been taken to safety, obviously the police are only doing their job.” He estimated, “I think at least 60 homes could be affected at this stage.”
