A council, in partnership with the police, has secured a closure order on a property in Leicestershire following residents’ concerns about anti-social behaviour. Melton Borough Council reported that it had been receiving complaints detailing ongoing issues such as persistent noise, abusive and threatening conduct, and drug abuse connected to the residence located on Mayfield Street in Melton Mowbray. The closure order was granted by Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, establishing a three-month period during which entry to the property is prohibited for any individual. The authority indicated that multiple warnings and offers of support had been provided to the property’s tenant by itself and Leicestershire Police. According to the council, the purpose of closure orders is to safeguard other residents in the vicinity by preventing anti-social behaviour from occurring within or near a specific property. Sarah Cox, chair of Melton Safer Partnership, stated: “Our first response is to always work with residents and tenants to find the right support for any issues that are occurring within communities.” She further commented: “However, the behaviour in this case was not acceptable and was not improving despite repeated warnings from officers.” Cox further emphasized: “This kind of anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in our borough, it was having a profound negative impact on those living in the area, who felt intimidated and fearful in their own homes, and we had to take formal action.”
