A novel climate center has been established with the aim of educating individuals on environmental matters and sustainable practices. The non-profit organization, Climate Hub Bath and North East Somerset, inaugurated this facility on Saturday, situated within the city’s former bus station’s ticket office. The organization intends for this venue to serve as a community-focused platform, enabling people to deepen their understanding of and participate in addressing the complex issues of climate change and the degradation of natural environments. Mel Clarke, who serves as the chair of trustees, stated: “There will be a wealth of resources and information,  including displays about climate science, the importance of connecting with nature, sustainable fashion, ‘greenwashing’ and many more.” She further mentioned that the location will be accessible daily, adding: “There will be a children’s area, and library, as well as information about local nature and environment-related events. “We’ll also be inviting other ‘green’ groups to join us each month to promote their work.” Climate Hub BANES originated four years prior as a temporary monthly installation in Kingsmead Square, occasionally operating during weekends in temporary council retail spaces. The collective estimates having engaged with over 1,000 individuals, providing valuable advice for constructive initiatives. Mandy Lake, a trustee who spearheaded the collaboration with First Bus to establish the hub at the bus station, commented: “This has taken a lot of work from ourselves as trustees, and also the commitment and enthusiasm of Thomas Hughes of First Bus in Bath to make this work.” Rachael Wells, the project development co-ordinator for the hub, stated: “Creating the new climate hub has been a real community effort, built on the commitment of our trustees, volunteers, and partners who believe deeply in giving Bath and North East Somerset a dedicated space for climate action.” She continued, “With various workshops, events, and resources, the hub will be a place for everyone to come together, share knowledge, and take steps to reduce our carbon footprint, all while building resilience in the face of a changing climate.” She indicated that its objective is to empower local inhabitants and cultivate a community where individuals can transform their environmental worries into tangible modifications.
