A second individual has passed away subsequent to an explosion and a house fire. Authorities reported that Julia Harris, 84, had been admitted to the hospital with critical injuries after the incident in Cleat Hill, Bedford, on October 19. Her death occurred on Tuesday. Paul Swales, 85, had succumbed to his injuries on the day the explosion took place. Numerous residents, numbering in the dozens, are still displaced from their homes, and the fire service has stated it is “yet to determine the exact cause” of the blast. The explosion responsible for the fatalities of Mr. Swales and Ms. Harris occurred in the identical vicinity where, on July 2, contractors had encountered a natural gas pocket during the drilling of a borehole for a heat pump installation, prompting a prior evacuation of neighboring properties. A distinct and ongoing inquiry is currently examining the conditions surrounding that previous gas leak. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) reported that efforts are being made to develop a permanent method to seal the borehole, and operations are in progress to bring the escaping gas “under control.” Detective Chief Inspector Matt Inwood, from Bedfordshire Police, stated: “Our thoughts remain with Julia’s loved ones at this difficult and distressing time. Our family liaison officers are working with family and friends and will continue to support them however we can.” Tom Wootton, Mayor of Bedford Borough, conveyed: “On behalf of Bedford Borough, I extend my deepest condolences to all who know and love the family affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.” Post navigation Family of 18-year-old killed in crash states he ‘died doing what he loved’ South Yorkshire Police Withdraw Demand for Photojournalist’s Riot Images
