Clara Evans set a new Welsh record of one hour and nine minutes at the Valencia half-marathon on Sunday. This performance follows her earlier achievement as Team GB’s best finisher, in 46th place, in the women’s marathon at this year’s Olympics. Representing the Pontypridd Roadents club, Evans surpassed the prior record of one hour, nine minutes, and 41 seconds, which Charlotte Arter had established in 2019. This time earned Evans 14th place in the event. She had previously been a late inclusion in the Team GB squad for this year’s Olympics. In Paris, she finished 46th in the marathon, after having previously set a Welsh marathon record of two hours, 25 minutes, and four seconds last December, also in Valencia. Concurrently at the Valencia event this weekend, Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia broke the men’s half-marathon world record, completing it in 57 minutes and 30 seconds.
