A children’s Christmas toy appeal has received over 3,800 toy donations. This marks the successful conclusion of the second annual Be Kind to a Kid Christmas appeal, a joint initiative by Suffolk Libraries and BBC Radio Suffolk. These contributions came from residents and businesses throughout the county and are slated for distribution to families through various charities. James Powell, Communications manager at Suffolk Libraries, expressed gratitude to all supporters of the initiative. Terry Underhill, executive editor of BBC Radio Suffolk, conveyed that his team was “thrilled” by the outcome. Mr Powell stated, “Every single toy will be appreciated and hopefully by working together we’ve made hundreds of children across Suffolk happier this Christmas.” He further noted, “The appeal has also highlighted the work of the many people and organisations across the county who work all year round to support families and children who are facing challenging circumstances.” Mr Underhill commented, “To know that 3,800 children will wake up on Christmas morning with a special gift, thanks to the wonderful generosity of everyone who donated, fills our hearts with joy.” The concept for the appeal originated with Wayne Bavin, BBC Radio Suffolk’s breakfast presenter, who proposed to Suffolk Libraries that the county’s 45 libraries serve as collection points for donations. The previous year’s appeal collected 2,500 toys, and this year’s total represents an increase of over 1,300 toys compared to that figure.
