Chris Wood, Hampshire’s leading wicket-taker in T20 cricket, will assume the captaincy for the club’s involvement in the Global Super League (GSL) as club captain James Vince will not participate in the tournament. Hampshire is among five teams scheduled to travel to Guyana for the inaugural GSL, which is set to commence in late November. According to Hampshire, Vince’s commitment to the Abu Dhabi T10 competition, where he is contracted to play for Delhi Bulls, prevents his participation. This tournament is scheduled from 21 November to 2 December. Consequently, Wood, who holds the record as the club’s all-time leading T20 wicket-taker, will assume the captaincy for their journey to South America. Wood expressed his anticipation, stating: “I’m really looking forward to getting out to Guyana and captaining the team.” He added, “I had one game of it a few years ago, and it’s a great privilege.” Having secured 191 scalps, Wood ranks as the fourth-leading wicket-taker in the history of the Vitality Blast. The GSL is reported to feature a prize pot of $1million (£764,000) and is set to be South America’s inaugural stand-alone cricket event. Every match will be held at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, a venue capable of accommodating 20,000 spectators. This competition, featuring five teams representing five distinct countries, is scheduled to run from 26 November to 7 December.
