The Metropolitan Police has reported the death of a child in Surrey, who was struck by a falling tree branch. Emergency services, including police officers, the London Fire Brigade, and the Ambulance Service, responded to a call at Grove Place in Banstead shortly after 16:00 BST on Saturday. While the incident is not considered suspicious, investigations are continuing to determine the full circumstances. A police spokesperson confirmed that the child’s age remains unknown and that officers are currently in the process of notifying all family members. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) stated that their personnel arrived at the location after receiving reports of a child being trapped by a section of a fallen tree. They collaborated with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and a fire engine crew from Surrey Fire and Rescue to organize a rescue effort. LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne stated, “Despite the despite the effort of emergency service personnel in attendance, the child was declared dead at the scene.” He added, “The thoughts of our crews and staff across the entire Brigade are with the child’s family at this difficult time.” Police also indicated that a report for the coroner will be prepared in due course.
