Lidl stores are withdrawing certain chicken wings from sale following the discovery of a pathogenic bacterium within the product. Specifically, traces of Listeria monocytogenes were identified in Glensallagh salt and chilli chicken wings, which are produced by McCaughey Foods. These chicken wings are exclusively available in Lidl outlets located in Northern Ireland. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) announced this recall through a statement released on Tuesday. Listeria monocytogenes is a type of pathogenic bacteria capable of inducing symptoms resembling influenza. Individuals who contract the infection might experience elevated temperatures, chills, muscle aches or pains, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. In uncommon instances, the infection can lead to more severe outcomes, including serious complications such as meningitis. Certain demographics are more susceptible to listeria infections, including pregnant women, individuals over 65 years of age, infants younger than one month old, and those with compromised immune systems.
