Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have received fines of £40,000 and £125,000, respectively, due to their failure to manage their players during a Premier League match earlier this month. The incident involved players from both teams clashing in the final moments of the fixture at Stamford Bridge. Both clubs acknowledged a charge from the Football Association concerning the event, which occurred during the latter part of their 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on October 6. The altercation was initiated when Forest defender Neco Williams pushed Chelsea full-back Marc Cucurella into Blues manager Enzo Maresca, leading to a confrontation on the pitch. An independent regulatory commission recognized the admissions of guilt from both clubs but stated that the penalties must reflect that it was still a “serious incident involving a large number of players from both sides.” The commission imposed a more substantial fine on Forest due to this being the sixth such occurrence involving the club within the past three years, whereas it marked only Chelsea’s third incident over five seasons. The commission identified Forest’s unfavorable recent history and “lack of contrition” as aggravating factors, further noting that it observed no indication of the club “addressing what is now becoming a serial problem.” Consequently, Chelsea initially faced a fine of £50,000 and Forest £150,000, with both amounts subsequently lowered because they admitted the charge.
