Chef Glynn Purnell has requested that patrons holding vouchers for his recently closed Michelin-starred establishment forward them to him to facilitate the provision of a resolution. Mr. Purnell, known for his appearances on culinary shows such as Saturday Kitchen, issued an apology and stated his readiness to present “solutions and proposals.” The Birmingham-based restaurant, Purnell’s, ceased operations on October 12. Initially, customers were informed that all inquiries concerning vouchers were legally required to be directed to the liquidators. However, on Thursday, Mr. Purnell published a post on Facebook, extending an invitation to voucher-holders to contact him via email, with the aim of reaching a “mutually agreeable conclusion.” Certain individuals had invested hundreds of pounds in these vouchers, notably Therese Roberts, a retired marketing professional from Coventry, who purchased £750 worth. The Michelin-starred establishment gained renown for its modern seasonal cuisine. Upon its closure, Mr. Purnell commented: “Things have moved on, and times have changed. In this current climate, no-one is bulletproof.” He further indicated that Purnell’s had experienced “a really tough time” and observed a decline in bookings exceeding 20%. He announced his intention to dedicate his efforts to his two other ventures: Plates by Purnell’s, located on Edmund Street in Birmingham, and The Mount by Glynn Purnell, situated in Henley-in-Arden. In his recent social media update, Mr. Purnell expressed gratitude to voucher-holders for their patience, noting that it had been “an incredibly challenging time for me and my team.” He further stated: “I have a number of solutions and proposals in mind, and I look forward to discussing these with you to find a mutually agreeable conclusion.” Mr. Purnell remarked that it had been “a new experience for us all and this has meant that we have been unable to maintain the high level of service that we have always strived to provide.” The BBC has contacted Mr. Purnell seeking additional information regarding his prospective resolutions for the unredeemed vouchers.
