A Christmas toy run is being organized by the family and friends of a beloved teenager who died in a road accident, held in his remembrance. Alfie Gray, aged 18, tragically died in September on the A370 close to Hewish, Weston-super-Mare, as he was returning home from work on his motorbike. His friends established the ‘Bikers for Alfie’ group, which is assisting his family in gathering donated presents for Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), a charitable organization. Jenny, Alfie’s mother, stated: “Alfie would have loved seeing the smiles on all the children’s faces when they receive their gifts on Christmas morning.” To facilitate the purchase of Christmas toys, a crowdfunder has been initiated with a fundraising target of £1,000. Jenny further commented: “It’s going to be a very difficult first Christmas without Alfie.” She continued: “But seeing everyone getting behind this toy run in his memory is heartwarming.” The expectation is that these toys will be delivered to CHSW’s Charlton Farm Hospice in North Somerset prior to Christmas. Charlton Farm represents one of the three hospices operated by the charity in the South West, an organization that characterizes itself as “dedicated to making the most of short and precious lives”. Additionally, the Bikers for Alfie group has been organizing motorbike gatherings, commemorative plaques, and tributes at locations where Alfie and his friends frequently met. Jenny and Kevin, Alfie’s father, jointly stated: “It was important that we did something in his memory and leave a lasting legacy to such a special young man.” Lucie Perryman, an area fundraiser for CHSW, remarked: “We’re so incredibly grateful to Jen and Kev for thinking of Children’s Hospice South West, in memory of Alfie, at this time of year, making it even more special for our children and families.” She added: “Alfie was very clearly a well-loved, generous young man, and this will help to keep his memory alive in such a fabulous way.”
