A charitable organization, which offers a Christmas meal to individuals experiencing homelessness and disadvantage, anticipates a significant increase in the number of children present at this year’s event, attributing this to families contending with escalating costs. The Midland Langar Seva Society (MLSS) is scheduled to hold this gathering at Birmingham’s New Street Station on Christmas Eve, marking its seventh consecutive year. The organization stated that there is a “dire need” for its complimentary festive meal this year, noting an increasing number of households “struggling to put food on their tables.” It further indicated that escalating energy expenses and declining living standards are placing considerable pressure on families. MLSS also affirmed its dedication to organizing a festive gathering, which will feature a DJ, carol singers, and an appearance by Father Christmas. Historically, these events, which MLSS arranges in collaboration with Network Rail, have seen attendance exceeding 250 individuals. During the Covid pandemic, the gathering took place outdoors, and meals were distributed for takeaway. An online fundraising page has been established by the charity, enabling individuals to contribute to the initiative. For updates, follow BBC Birmingham on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
