The company operating a passenger ferry route connecting the Channel Islands and France has announced that reservations for its 2025 season are now available. Manche Iles Express operates services linking Granville, Barneville-Carteret, and DiƩlette with the Channel Islands, in addition to providing inter-island ferry connections between Jersey and Guernsey, and between Jersey and Sark. According to the operator, voyages are scheduled to recommence on 10 April 2025 and will continue regularly through the end of September. In October, the governments of Jersey, Guernsey, and Sark committed to subsidizing the service until the close of 2025, a decision made after escalating operating expenses jeopardized its continuation. The operator mentioned the extension of a program by the Jersey and Guernsey governments that permits French day visitors to travel to Guernsey using their national ID cards instead of passports, stating that this initiative is expected to stimulate the local economy, benefit operators, and foster cultural connections with France. It was further specified that French nationals are required to possess a valid national identity card issued less than 10 years prior. The automatic five-year extension applied to older national identity cards is no longer recognized in the Channel Islands. Individuals from other nations, including those within and outside the European Union, those undertaking a one-way journey, or those planning multi-day stays on the islands, must present a valid passport and, for specific nationalities, a visa. A photographic identification document is mandatory for inter-island travel. The operator reported transporting over 56,000 passengers in 2024, an increase from 53,000 passengers in 2023.
