Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers expressed optimism regarding captain Callum McGregor’s potential return from injury for Wednesday’s match against Dundee, following McGregor’s absence from Sunday’s fixture at Fir Park. Rodgers also disclosed that Adam Idah’s foot remains in a protective boot. McGregor was absent from the midfield during Sunday’s victory over Motherwell, with Rodgers suggesting his unavailability might be due to “the wear and tear of playing so many games.” Meanwhile, striker Idah sustained an injury and left the field following a challenge from Liam Gordon. Speaking to Celtic TV, the Northern Irishman stated, “We are obviously analysing and looking at one or two of the guys that had some knocks.” He continued regarding McGregor, “Callum, we are just waiting to hear back, but we think that is good news with him. “It won’t do him any harm to miss out a game. He is so consistent and such a committed player.” Rodgers further elaborated, “You know if there is a niggle with him, it really has to be something that is quite sore for him not to be involved, but we are hopeful it is just a case of that fatigue of putting so much in.” He highlighted McGregor’s performance, adding, “I think you seen his numbers that he has covered the most ground of any player in the Champions League. It tells you how much work he is putting in. We are hopeful he can be involved in some part Wednesday, but if not, definitely Saturday.” Regarding Idah’s injury, Rodgers commented that “we just have to wait and see” its full extent. He added, “Adam Idah was on the end of a poor challenge,” and confirmed, “He’s still got his foot in a boot at the moment, but we are hoping he has got away with that.” In other team news, Rodgers mentioned that centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers, who returned from injury as a substitute at Fir Park, still “needs to build up that match fitness.” Additionally, left-back Greg Taylor, having returned as an unused replacement, is a potential inclusion for the match against Dundee.
