Caroline Weir states that the team is “calm” as Scotland approaches one of the most crucial games in the history of Scottish women’s football. The Real Madrid midfielder is set to captain Scotland in their pivotal match against Finland, which will determine qualification for next summer’s European Championships. The 29-year-old described it as “a massive honour” to deputize for the injured captain Rachel Corsie. However, Weir acknowledged being part of “a team of leaders” where responsibility is shared. She informed BBC Scotland, “It’s not just on one or two people, I’m surrounded by leaders and I know that everyone is going to be giving their best and leading by example.” Weir commented on the team’s long-standing cohesion, stating, “We’ve been together as a group for a long time with the staff as well, so it’s a relaxing environment. Everyone is keeping calm, of course, and I think knowing what we have to do makes it easier. Having a clear game plan to stick to is what keeps people relaxed.” The objective is to secure qualification for a major tournament, ending a six-year absence. Weir further remarked, “It’s everything for a lot of players.” She elaborated, “There’s a lot [riding on it], of course it’s a game of football and that’s how we are going to approach it, but we know what’s on the line and I think it would be everything to so many players, to the country, if we qualify.” Post navigation Preston North End Players Called Up for International Duty Analysis of Mikel Arteta’s ‘Changed’ Managerial Style on BBC Radio 5 Live
