Carlisle United’s head coach, Mike Williamson, whose tenure has seen three victories in 12 matches, is focused on maintaining the team’s recent positive momentum. The Cumbrians secured a 2-1 midweek triumph against Morecambe in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, building on their League Two success at Salford City from the previous weekend. This marks the first instance since March 2023 that Carlisle has achieved consecutive wins within regulation time. Their upcoming fixture is an away game on Saturday against Bromley, who are also experiencing difficulties. “We just want to keep building on the performances and we know results will come with that,” Williamson stated in an interview with BBC Radio Cumbria. Despite remaining in League Two’s relegation zone, a win this weekend would bring Carlisle within a single point of their upcoming adversaries. Scoring continues to be a challenge for the team, as only two other clubs have netted fewer than Carlisle’s 13 goals in 15 games. However, Williamson suggests his squad is beginning to reap rewards from improved defensive play, evidenced by three clean sheets in their last five away fixtures. He commented, “We need to build on the defensive discipline we’ve seen in the last few weeks.” Williamson added, “But we need to keep pushing and working hard on ways we can get behind and hurt the opposition.”
