Cardiff City midfielder David Turnbull, formerly of Celtic and with five appearances for Scotland, is set for an extended period out of action following surgery for a hamstring injury. The 25-year-old, who previously played for Celtic, has already been absent from Cardiff’s last two Championship fixtures. In related injury news, right-back Perry Ng has also sustained a hamstring injury, though his expected recovery time is shorter than Turnbull’s. Cardiff manager Omer Riza stated, “Perry’s got a problem with his hamstring and David has had an operation on his hamstring, so he’s a long-term injury now. Perry we’ll assess.” Riza added, “We’ve got a few injuries now and the squad is a bit thin but the boys are doing a great job to maintain the levels we need to get something from games.” Prior to his injury, Turnbull had been a consistent presence in Cardiff’s first team, having played 12 matches this season. Cardiff, known as the Bluebirds, currently sit 21st in the Championship standings, just one point and one position clear of the relegation zone. This follows a 2-2 draw against Stoke City on Saturday, extending Riza’s team’s winless streak to seven matches.
