Omer Riza, the manager of Cardiff City, has stated his expectation of receiving the necessary support for player acquisitions during the January transfer window. This announcement on Thursday confirmed Riza’s appointment on a contract extending until the season’s conclusion, following his tenure as the Bluebirds’ interim manager. With the resolution of the uncertainty regarding his own position, Riza is now focusing on transfer strategies ahead of the window’s opening next month. Riza commented, “Conversations are ongoing in respect of a longlist and a shortlist of players and recognising where the weaknesses are we have in the squad, and how we need to replenish or replace players to make sure that, come January, we are taking the team to another level.” He added, “The conversations have been good. We’re talking all the time. If we need to strengthen I’m sure we will be given the opportunity to do so.” During his 12 games in charge, Riza has presided over a notable improvement, securing 16 points and introducing a more offensive playing style. Despite this, Cardiff has not secured a victory in their last five matches and currently sits 20th in the Championship table, two points clear of the relegation zone, ahead of Saturday’s match against Watford.
