Cardiff City manager Omer Riza, who was appointed on an interim basis in September and signed a contract last week extending until the season’s end, has confirmed that “conversations” regarding potential transfers have commenced as the club evaluates its options for the upcoming January transfer window. The team is scheduled to face Stoke City this Saturday, aiming to recover from a poor midweek loss to Preston, a result that extended the Bluebirds’ winless streak to six games. Given that his squad is currently positioned within the Championship relegation zone, Riza has indicated that adjustments are anticipated for the following month. The Cardiff manager stated, “I think we need to possibly bring players into help the squad.” He further elaborated, “We are talking all the time regarding transfers and players, potential transfers, maybe some players going out, maybe some players coming in.” Riza added, “There is nothing solid yet, but the processes have begun in terms of conversations and they will go on until the window closes.” Riza has also suggested that Wilfried Kanga, Cardiff’s sole current loan player, might return to his parent club, Hertha Berlin, next month, following difficulties in making a significant impact in the Welsh capital. Additionally, other players within the squad could be considered surplus to requirements, as Cardiff’s roster appears to be in need of fresh additions after what has been a challenging season to date. Cardiff currently holds the distinction of being the lowest-scoring team in the Championship, and only two other second-tier clubs have allowed more league goals during the 2024-25 season. The team’s performance on Wednesday against Preston, a side that had not secured a league victory in nine matches prior to their visit to Wales, was notably concerning, prompting Riza to admit that Cardiff is involved in a relegation battle. Riza further stated, “We are as it stands because we are in the bottom three and everyone’s fighting for points.” He continued, “Until we get out of that we’ll continue to be in that. We have got to win games, win points to not be in it.” Concluding his remarks, Riza questioned, “So right until the end of the season, unless we pick up the points we need to, that’s going to stand, isn’t it?” Post navigation Weekend Match Preview: Kilmarnock vs Celtic Newcastle United Podcast Examines LGBT Community Relationship
