Omer Riza, Cardiff City’s manager, has acknowledged “an element of pressure” currently affecting his team when playing on home ground. This admission follows a 2-0 defeat to league leaders Sheffield United on Saturday, a match in which Kieffer Moore scored both goals against his former club, leading to the Bluebirds’ descent into the Championship’s relegation zone. The loss to the Blades extends Cardiff’s winless streak to eight matches, preceding their upcoming fixture against fellow strugglers Oxford United on 26 December, scheduled for a 15:00 GMT kick-off. Furthermore, this marked Cardiff’s seventh home league defeat of the current campaign, a figure higher than any other team in the division. Their home goal difference of -5 at Cardiff City Stadium also represents the poorest home performance in the second tier this season. Riza stated, “We’re in a fight at the minute, and we need to get out of it.” He added, “Every mistake counts and that can lead to frustration, mistakes and nervousness.” Regarding home games, Riza commented, “At home at the minute, I think there’s an element of pressure there. The fans, maybe at the minute, the situation they’re not happy with.” He continued, “They’ve got their opinions and they’ll air their opinions and vent their frustrations.” Riza further explained, “We can’t do anything about it. All we can do is manage what we’re managing.” He concluded, “I can’t control how the fans are. We want them to be happy and we want to perform so they’re happy.”
