Cardiff City is set to resume Championship play this Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday, aiming to secure their initial away victory since early April. The Bluebirds have re-entered the relegation zone following consecutive losses that interrupted their resurgence under interim manager Omer Riza before the international break. Given the renewed pressure, this upcoming weekend presents an opportune moment for Cardiff to enhance their modest away performance. Out of the 15 points Cardiff has accumulated in the 2024-25 season, only three have been earned in away matches. The team is among just six clubs across the three English Football League (EFL) divisions that have not yet achieved an away league win this season; only Oxford United and Plymouth Argyle, with two points each, have secured fewer away points than the Welsh club. Cardiff has not recorded a victory in seven league away fixtures this season, extending their winless streak to nine games when including the conclusion of the previous season. The last instance Cardiff endured such a prolonged wait for an away success at the beginning of a campaign was during the 2019-20 season, when they finally secured a win on their 10th attempt against Nottingham Forest in late November. Despite that slow start away from home, they concluded that season in the Championship play-offs. Sheffield Wednesday will aim for consecutive home victories this Saturday, following their recent win against Norwich City at Hillsborough. Prior to that success, they had experienced a three-match winless streak on their home ground.
