Police have announced the dismantling of a cannabis cultivation operation, estimated to have a street value of £170,000, following a raid on a residence in Sheffield. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that the plants, which were confiscated after officers entered the property on Maltravers Road on Thursday, are slated for destruction. A spokesperson for the force indicated that the raid was conducted based on intelligence received, and investigations are ongoing to locate suspects connected to the discovery of the plants. Inspector Katie Hammond, from South Yorkshire Police, stated: “We’ll continue to work to dismantle cannabis farms and bring those who think they’re above the law to justice.” Inspector Hammond further noted that it is a “misconception” that cannabis farms present a low risk to communities. She elaborated, stating: “Homes housing cannabis farms carry a serious fire risk, as the electricity is often bypassed in an attempt to hide what is really going on.” Inspector Hammond added: “We also know cultivations like the one we have found help to fund the illegal and extremely harmful activities of organised crime groups.” South Yorkshire Police urged anyone with information regarding the cannabis farm discovered on Thursday to make contact.
