A cannabis cultivation operation, featuring over 400 plants, was found just four doors away from a police station. A warrant was executed on Wednesday evening at the former Co-op premises on Sycamore Street in Newcastle Emlyn, located on the Carmarthenshire/Ceredigion border. Approximately 435 cannabis plants were seized, along with associated growing equipment. Dyfed-Powys Police reported that no arrests had been made, but officers remained in the area as inquiries continued. The scent of cannabis had been detected by individuals in the vicinity, with one woman who works in the town stating: “I’m not surprised, I’ve been smelling it for at least a month.” Dyfed-Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn commented that large vacant properties in town centres offer a “very lucrative opportunity… for a cannabis cultivation to be produced in that location, sort of hidden in plain sight.” He added that the operation’s close proximity to the police station “just highlights how these organised crime groups are quite brazen.” Copyright 2024 BBC.
