American golfer Cameron Young has established a two-shot advantage following the initial round of the Hero World Challenge, an event hosted by Tiger Woods in the Bahamas. Young, who has accumulated seven PGA Tour runner-up finishes in his career, leads the field. The 27-year-old Young completed his round in Albany on Thursday with a bogey-free score of eight under par. This performance placed him ahead of fellow American Justin Thomas, who notably recorded birdies on four of his final five holes. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler trails Young by three strokes, sitting at five under par. He shares this position with Akshay Bhatia, Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, and Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg. Tiger Woods, the tournament host and a 15-time major champion, was unable to participate in the event. Woods had been anticipated to fill an exemption spot in the unofficial tournament, which features 20 of the world’s leading players. The 48-year-old Woods did not disclose the reason for his non-participation. However, he has maintained a restricted competitive schedule for several years due to various injuries. Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre is currently tied for eighth place, four shots behind the leader, after posting an opening round of 68. He shares this standing with the American trio of Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, and Nick Dunlap. Concurrently, England’s Aaron Rai is positioned three strokes further back, at one-under par. Young, ranked 38th in the world and recognized as the 2022 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year despite not yet securing a PGA title, achieved eight birdie putts to establish his lead at the invitational tournament. Reflecting on his round, Young stated: “It’s a nice thing to come out and just feel like yourself,” he said. “Really happy with it. I feel like with the driver I was just really comfortable and that’s a huge key out here. I’m sure I missed a fairway or two, but for the most part I was really well in position. Then I made a couple putts early, which was nice.” Post navigation Surrey to commence County Championship title defense against Essex Nigel Reo-Coker Criticizes Tottenham’s Inconsistent Season Following 6-3 Loss
