British tennis player Cameron Norrie, formerly ranked world number eight, has secured a spot in the 15th ATP Tour final of his career. This marks his first ATP final appearance since February 2023, achieved through a straight-sets victory over Corentin Moutet at the Moselle Open, continuing his strong performance late in the season. Norrie, who recently returned to competition after a two-month absence due to a forearm injury, triumphed in the semi-final against the French player in Metz with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Norrie began the season robustly, reaching the last 16 at the Australian Open and the semi-finals of the Rio Open. However, his form and fitness declined during the latter half of the year. The 29-year-old left-handed player’s world ranking has fallen to 57th. Nevertheless, rather than letting his season conclude without impact, he dedicated effort to his comeback and found renewed vigor in his final tournament of the year. Norrie commented on his achievement, stating, “It’s not really a relief [to reach the final], but it has been a difficult year for me and I’ve not been able to gain any momentum.” He is projected to re-enter the world’s top 50 rankings next week. In his match against Moutet, he demonstrated powerful serving and capitalized effectively on his chances, converting four of five break points. Following a loss in a second-set tie-break from a strong position during Thursday’s quarter-final against Zizou Bergs, Norrie reversed this outcome against Moutet on Friday. Norrie overcame a 5-2 deficit in the tie-break, rallying to secure the win in straight sets. Norrie expressed his delight at reaching the final, particularly given the way he achieved it, by baring his teeth and vocalizing his satisfaction towards his support team. On Saturday, he is scheduled to compete for the trophy against either Benjamin Bonzi of France or Alex Michelsen of the United States. This final will mark the 15th ATP Tour final of Norrie’s career and his first since his victory over Spanish world number three Carlos Alcaraz in the Rio final in February 2023. Norrie further stated, “It’s nice to finish the year by playing in another final and back to competing for every point.” He concluded, “Regardless of who I play it will be difficult, but I’ll enjoy the win today.”
