Scotsman Cameron Menzies has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam of Darts, marking his first-ever appearance at this stage in a PDC event, after securing a dramatic 10-9 win against James Wade. The 35-year-old initially took the lead, but Wade staged a comeback to establish a 7-5 advantage. Menzies then managed to draw level, sending the match into a deciding leg. Menzies missed two opportunities to seal the victory on double top. However, Wade was unable to complete a 98 checkout, allowing the Scot to close out the match on his third attempt. “I am ecstatic. I’m going to have to phone in sick on Thursday,” joked Menzies, who also works as a plumber, during an interview on Sky Sports. He further commented, “I think I’m carrying a bit of luck for the first time in my life. I was just praying to things I didn’t know existed.” Menzies is set to face Mickey Mansell in the next round, following Mansell’s 10-7 triumph over Danny Noppert. In other results, Rob Cross progressed to the last eight after defeating Ritchie Edhouse 10-4. Cross will compete against Martin Lukeman, who secured his spot with a 10-5 victory over Ross Smith.
