Cameron Archer, Southampton’s goalscorer, expressed his belief that the Saints “showed fight and hard work” during their Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Liverpool. Speaking to BBC Radio Solent after the game, the forward stated: “I thought it was a good game. We knew it was going to be an ugly game from us, because we know what they are capable of. We sat back and tried to find ways to win.” Archer further commented on their preparation, saying: “We didn’t have long to work with Rusky [Simon Rusk], but we trained and he gave us a few ideas. Obviously, it comes down to us as well.” Regarding the goals conceded, he remarked: “I haven’t watched back the goals we conceded, but obviously they have good quality players so I’m not sure [how we could have done better].” He also expressed his view that: “I feel like we just needed to get closer to them and show we were still in the game. When I scored the goal, it gave us a boost and the fans got back into the game. But they were probably the better side in the end.” Archer then indicated that the team’s attention has now shifted to their upcoming Premier League fixture against Fulham. He emphasized the importance of unity and effort, stating: “We have just got to train and stick together as well – that is the most important thing,” he said. “We need to train, get our heads down and get the job done.” Listen to the full post-match interview on BBC Sounds Sandi Toksvig is joined by Gyles Brandreth, Lulu, Emmanuel Sonubi and Alan Davies Grab the mic for Queen, Taylor Swift, Bon Jovi, Katy Perry and more… Ben Fogle and Kate Humble are back for the festivities at Longleat Safari Park From micro plastics in our air, soil, and waterways, to the extent of food waste at this time of year © 2024 BBC.
