The Park Street car park in Cambridge’s city centre is scheduled to recommence operations following a “major delay” in its redevelopment. This facility ceased public access in January 2022 for primary construction and demolition activities, with an initial target reopening set for August 2024. According to the city council, the project encountered “unprecedented weather, changes to compliance and regulation requiring additional works, and supply chain issues.” Furthermore, a “major delay” resulted from a “contractor’s failure to install the power connection,” as stated by the council. The council anticipates the facility will reopen after completing final inspections on Tuesday. The previous structure was demolished to facilitate the construction of Staycity’s five-storey hotel, which features 229 rooms. The new development will incorporate a public car park offering 225 spaces within its basement level. Its reopening is planned to include a ribbon-cutting ceremony. A spokesperson for the council commented: “The project team has worked with all the adjacent businesses and residents throughout the project. The team has worked extremely hard to keep delays to a minimum.”
