Local businesses have been acknowledged for their contributions of food parcels and provision of washing facilities to an individual, described as a “lovely young lad and his dog,” who was observed residing in his vehicle. Cambridgeshire Police reported that they were contacted regarding the situation in St Ives and subsequently determined that the man was without funds and had “fallen on difficult times,” according to a post shared on Facebook. Officers sought assistance from town centre traders, who responded by offering food, water, and hot beverages. A spokesperson conveyed: “A huge thank you” to those who demonstrated “kindness in an otherwise very bleak and sad situation.” They further stated that officers intend to “check up on him and his beloved (and very handsome) dog regularly.” The Facebook post, published on Tuesday, indicated that officers had received calls concerning someone living in their vehicle. “It was thanks to your concern that we soon tracked down a lovely young lad and his dog,” the post read. It continued: “When we visited him and his canine companion, we quickly established he had no money and therefore no means for food for himself, as any little he had was spent on his beloved dog.” The post added: “As it is with every life, there is always a story, but it is not ours to tell.” The man “poses no risk in any way” and had “fallen on difficult times,” the post affirmed. Officers approached the businesses because they were aware that local food banks would not be operational until the following day. The spokesperson noted that “these amazing businesses didn’t even hesitate, not even for a second” and provided food, hot drinks, and facilities for washing. Even though the dog’s needs were already addressed, dog food and treats were also offered. “We feel sure your acts of kindness will stay with him for a very long time to come,” the post concluded.
