A 60-year-old man is in critical condition after a bus made an incorrect turn and collided with a railway bridge. The 4A First Bus, which was transporting 11 passengers, became lodged beneath the bridge on Cook Street in Glasgow city centre at approximately 18:00 on Saturday. A section of the vehicle’s roof was torn off as a consequence. Additionally, five other men and one woman were transported to hospital for minor injuries and have since been discharged. The four remaining passengers received assessment at the scene, and the driver sustained no injuries. Police Scotland has initiated an investigation into the collision, and inquiries are continuing. Last May, 10 individuals were hospitalized after a bus collided with the identical railway bridge. Thoroughfares surrounding the bridge were temporarily shut down but were reopened around 00:30. The thoroughfare operates as a one-way street, and the bridge, situated close to the O2 Academy, appears soon after a turn, despite being distinctly signposted for vehicles with a height under 3.8 metres (12.5 ft). ScotRail suspended several lines following the incident, but operations recommenced later that evening. First Bus initiated its internal investigation and stated it is cooperating with police inquiries. Network Rail reported that a team had examined the bridge and determined there was no structural damage, though rail passengers encountered “unnecessary delays”. A representative commented: “The incident caused significant disruptions and cancellations to train services.” “Bridge strikes like this cost taxpayers millions of pounds each year and are entirely preventable.” “We urge drivers to always consider the height and size of their vehicles, including any loads they are carrying, and to carefully plan their routes to avoid incidents that put our infrastructure at risk.” Post navigation Fatal Stabbing Triggers Murder Investigation Man in his 60s dies following solo vehicle collision in County Donegal
