A perpetrator who entered the room of an elderly woman suffering from dementia within a West Yorkshire care home has received a prison sentence of three years and nine months. Mark Ambler, aged 42, was located concealed in the resident’s bathroom, having activated a movement sensor in her room, situated in the Armley area of Leeds. According to West Yorkshire Police, the woman remained asleep throughout the incident, which occurred on 6 September. Care home staff successfully detained Ambler on the premises until law enforcement personnel reached the scene. Ambler, whose address is Stonecliffe Gardens, Leeds, received his sentence at Leeds Crown Court on Wednesday. He had previously entered guilty pleas to charges of burglary and possessing a Class A drug. Detective Inspector Vicky Vessey characterized him as “a prolific offender”. She stated, “Fortunately, the victim was not disturbed by him as she slept, and thanks to the vigilance of the staff, he was caught and detained.” “We know this was a distressing incident for the victim’s family and for staff at the home.” “We hope they can take some comfort from knowing Ambler is now safely behind bars.” Law enforcement officials ascertained that Ambler had employed wire cutters to sever a security band on a ground-floor window to gain entry into the room. During a subsequent search conducted while he was in police custody, he was found to be in possession of crack cocaine.
