A burglar who tried to avoid police capture by swimming across a lake has been imprisoned. Chad Lambert, 35, of Cobourg Road, Bristol, received his sentence at Bristol Magistrates’ Court after confessing to aggravated burglary. The court was informed that on 19 October, he was observed behaving suspiciously in a shop on Averay Road, Bristol. When confronted, he broke a window to get behind the counter, took a bottle of wine, and emptied the till. He then ran into the nearby Eastville Park, where he discarded clothing and a bag before entering the lake. He was then seen swimming to the small island in the middle of the lake. Police officers pursued Lambert on foot, with a drone unit subsequently deployed to track his movements through the trees and bushes on the island. Officers managed to reach the island using a boat provided by the Avon and Fire Rescue Service, where they made the arrest. He later pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, along with being ordered to pay £154 in compensation.
