A British adolescent sustained severe injuries when a paraglider struck her as she was dining with her family during a vacation. Lily Nichol, aged 15, from Chester-le-Street in County Durham, was hurt on Friday, which was the concluding day of her trip to Oludeniz, a resort town situated in southwest Turkey. According to her mother, Lyndsey Logan, who spoke to the BBC, Lily now requires several surgical procedures, including operations on her back and jaw, estimated to cost the family £45,000. Ms Logan recounted that while Lily was having pizza at a restaurant with her mother and elder sister, a paraglider “came from nowhere.” She further stated, “Next thing we knew, my daughter was just unconscious on the floor.” Ms Logan added, “I was just screaming, crying for help,” and concluded, “I thought she was dead.” Ms Logan detailed Lily’s injuries, which encompassed a broken jaw, a split tongue, and four spinal fractures, rendering her unable to be transferred from the hospital. She also mentioned that Lily’s eye was “gashed open” and her teeth were “wobbly” and would require replacement. Physicians initially informed her that Lily had experienced a brain bleed, though a subsequent scan verified the absence of severe head trauma. As Ms Logan had not secured travel insurance, the family is now responsible for covering Lily’s medical expenses. The costs have reached £7,200 to date, paid by Lily’s father, but the back and jaw surgeries will incur an additional £45,000. Ms Logan stated that her family lacks the necessary funds, with Lily’s surgery scheduled for Monday. Her mother indicated she would provide a deposit for the procedure in advance but would be required to settle the entire amount before Lily could be discharged from the hospital. To help manage these expenses, Lily’s family has launched an online fundraiser. “My daughter didn’t remember anything,” Ms Logan reported, adding, “She thought she was having a dream.” Ms Logan also mentioned that Lily experienced “bad nightmares” on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Megan, her 19-year-old other daughter, was also rendered unconscious by the paraglider but sustained less severe injuries. Ms Logan recalled, “She came around when I started screaming.” Ms Logan expressed that she was “absolutely traumatised” by the event, remarking, “I’ll never forget this day.” The family has reached out to the British Embassy in Turkey. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office informed the BBC, stating: “We are providing support to a British girl and her family following an accident in Turkey.” Post navigation Lady Bay Bridge Reopens Following Oil Spill from Two-Vehicle Collision M61 Incident Leads to Significant Delays
