A man, aged 41, has received a prison sentence after confessing to perpetrating “horrific” acts against a child. Peter Woolley, a resident of Bristol, was incarcerated for a period of 12 years subsequent to his guilty plea to three charges of attempted rape of a child under the age of 13 and one charge of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. Additionally, Woolley was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a restraining order. In a statement, the victim expressed: “I feel uncomfortable around men. I am conscious of what clothes I’m wearing and I feel like men are always looking at me.” Woolley’s sentencing took place at Bristol Crown Court on 2 December. During the court proceedings, it was revealed that the defendant had sexually assaulted and attempted to rape the victim in Bristol over a span of four years. Law enforcement was notified in 2020, however, the defendant absconded to Jamaica the day following the most recent occurrence. Woolley came back to the UK in August, whereupon he was apprehended, questioned, charged, and held in custody. The victim stated that she now cries and experiences anger “at little things, which wouldn’t have affected me before”. She further mentioned, “I like to spend time alone in the dark in my bedroom these days.” Det Con Elizabeth Howell, the investigating officer, praised the victim’s “continued bravery.” Det Con Howell also remarked: “No one should be subjected to attacks of this nature, but to have had this happen at such a young age makes this all the more horrific.” “She has shown incredible endurance and courage over the past few years while we attempted to bring Woolley back to the UK from Jamaica and into our custody. “The judge described Woolley as robbing the victim of her childhood, and I only hope this sentence will give the victim and her family some justice as she continues to come to terms with what happened to her.” Furthermore, Woolley was issued a lifetime prohibition from employment involving children and vulnerable adults and will be listed on the Sex Offenders Register.
