Today, numerous swimmers participated in a dip within Bristol’s harbour, marking the city’s inaugural Winter Solstice aquatic event. Open-water swimming became permissible in the harbour for the first time last year, following advocacy from open-water swimming enthusiasts. All Aboard Watersports coordinated the event, additionally offering a sauna and complimentary coffee for swimmers to warm up after exiting the water. “We are definitely planning on doing it again, it’s just a lovely thing to do,” stated Gemma Corbett from All Aboard. The event was conducted with the presence of fully trained lifeguards supervising participants, and those entering the water received counsel to ready themselves by focusing on their respiration. Ms Corbett informed the BBC that the attendance surpassed any previous observations she had made. “We will be here on New Year’s Day too,” she further noted. Johnny Palmer, the founder of the advocacy organization Swim Bristol Harbour, conveyed to the BBC that the water was “great.” “It’s the first time it has been done on the Winter Solstice, and I hope it’s carried on throughout the whole of the winter.” “It’s a great community here and the best way to start a Saturday,” he concluded.
