Pedro Rubiolo, an Argentina second row who is a first-choice in his country’s forward pack, is set to transfer from Newcastle to Premiership rivals Bristol next summer. The 21-year-old, who has earned 19 caps for the Pumas, has committed to a “long-term deal” at Ashton Gate, as described by Bristol. Since joining Newcastle in January 2023, Rubiolo has made 21 appearances for the club. He was a member of the Argentina squad that reached the semi-finals in the most recent Rugby World Cup. This year, he contributed to Argentina’s victories over New Zealand and South Africa in the Rugby Championship and has started all three of his nation’s matches this autumn. Bristol Bears director of rugby Pat Lam stated, “Pedro is one of the rising stars of Argentinian rugby and is already established himself as the starting lock in the Pumas squad at just 21 years old. He has impressed both domestically with Newcastle Falcons and internationally with the Pumas. We’re excited by the physicality and work rate that he will add to our forward pack, and we look forward to welcoming Pedro into the Bears family next season.”
