Strong winds have necessitated the closure of the Brighton Winter Fayre for the second time this month. Organisers announced that the event would remain shut for what was intended to be its final weekend, adding that efforts to secure alternative venues were unsuccessful due to the short notice. The fayre typically offers workshops, live entertainment, and market stalls, alongside street food and drink options. An announcement issued on Friday stated: “We’re very sad to be shutting our doors earlier than planned, but we hope everyone understands that safety comes first.” The closure was prompted by Met Office predictions of high winds expected over the weekend. Organisers confirmed that all ticket holders would be contacted directly and processed for refunds over the coming days. The event was originally scheduled to operate on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 GMT until 23:00. A statement conveyed: “Our sincere thanks go to our fantastic staff and volunteers, and the amazing support received from our stakeholders.” It also extended: “A special thanks is extended to the wonderful people of Brighton who visited us in their thousands, and showed the true spirit of the festive season.” The event had also been cancelled on the first weekend of December due to Storm Darragh, which brought strong winds, flooding, and disruption across the country.
