A section of a dementia care facility in East Sussex is slated for conversion into a residential home for children with disabilities. Brighton & Hove City Council announced that a currently unoccupied wing of Ireland Lodge, situated in Woodingdean, will be named Rainbow Lodge. This new establishment will provide full-time care for five children with complex needs. Rainbow Lodge is planned to be located adjacent to, yet distinct from, Ireland Lodge, with its opening anticipated in spring 2025. Councillor Emma Daniel stated that one of the authority’s “key missions” is to ensure children receive care within their “home” city. She added, “To do this, we need to have adequate provision to support their needs.” The facility will be managed internally by council staff. Ms Daniel commented that it would offer a “truly amazing new home” for children with disabilities, “that families will be able to access much more easily to spend time together.” Construction is scheduled to commence in December and is projected to conclude in approximately three months. The council indicated that the work is not expected to affect nearby residents, but it extended an apology for any potential disruption caused.
