A proposal intended to foster closer cooperation among businesses in a Shropshire town has been turned down by most local enterprises. The creators of the Bridgnorth Business Improvement District (BID) initiative stated that it had the potential to generate £1 million for the town over a five-year period. However, a month-long voting process, concluding on Thursday, saw 67 traders within the designated BID zone vote against the proposal, while 39 supported it. Earlier, certain businesses informed the BBC that they were unwilling to contribute financially to such a program amidst a cost-of-living crisis, expressing concerns that it would replicate existing council duties. The proposed scheme would have required businesses to contribute 2% of their annual rateable value. Supporters of the BID contended that it would enhance town safety and provide opportunities for securing funds.
