Brian Fenton, a seven-time All-Ireland winner, has announced the end of his career with Dublin. The 31-year-old, who debuted in 2015, is widely recognized as one of the sport’s premier midfielders. He was a member of the Dublin team that achieved six consecutive Sam Maguire victories from 2015 to 2020, establishing a record of 45 unbeaten championship games. Fenton also amassed 10 Leinster Senior Championship medals, concluding his career without a single defeat in that competition. Additionally, the midfielder secured four National Football League titles, was honored as Footballer of the Year twice (in 2018 and 2020), and received six All-Star awards. His final appearance for Dublin occurred in July during the All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Galway. In a statement regarding Fenton’s retirement, Dublin County Board Chairperson Michael Seavers commented: “Brian was an integral figure in the incredible success enjoyed by Dublin over the past decade.” “He is a hugely talented footballer and fan favourite who will forever be considered one of the greatest players to grace the field in a blue jersey.” “We thank Brian for his unwavering commitment to Dublin football.” Fenton’s departure follows James McCarthy’s earlier decision this month to withdraw from Dessie Farrell’s panel prior to the 2025 season.
