BrewDog co-founder James Watt has indicated a potential three-year postponement of his wedding to reality television personality Georgia Toffolo. This consideration stems from a desire to secure tax relief related to his investment in her raw dog food enterprise. On Tuesday, the multimillionaire shared on LinkedIn that his tax adviser had “dropped a bombshell” regarding an issue that might influence the couple’s wedding arrangements. Toffolo, widely recognized for her appearances in the reality series Made in Chelsea and her victory on ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, had previously announced their engagement on Instagram earlier in the current year. However, her fiancé stated that the tax guidance concerning his intended investment in her dog food company, Wild Pack, presented him with a choice regarding the Enterprise Investment Scheme. He clarified, “If I marry Georgia within three years of investing, I become a ‘connected person’ under HMRC rules, and I lose the tax relief.” Watt subsequently solicited his followers’ opinions on whether he should prioritize “tax relief” or “love.” Presenting a multiple-choice poll, he posed the question to his followers: “‘A) Love always wins – take the tax relief hit’ or ‘B) True love can wait for 3 years – secure the relief’.” A respondent commented, “I would take three happy years of marriage over tax relief any day.” Another individual responded, “Why not wait… people live together without the paperwork all over the world, many never marry.” Referencing BrewDog’s punk ethos, another user humorously remarked: “Looking to postpone your wedding to enhance your tax break options is definitely a punk thing…” The head of the Scottish beer company has previously engaged in publicity stunts, leading to uncertainty regarding the seriousness of his current predicament. In May, he resigned from his position as CEO of BrewDog, announcing his transition to the newly established role of “captain and co-founder” while maintaining his shares in the enterprise. Ofcom dismissed a complaint filed by BrewDog in February concerning a BBC documentary that featured allegations of inappropriate conduct against Watt.
