Former Leicester City striker Dion Dublin commended Brentford manager Thomas Frank’s “positive” tactical setup against the Foxes, following the Bees’ four-goal performance at Gtech Community Stadium. Speaking on Match of the Day, Dublin remarked: “Thomas Frank set them up with five players to attack and five players to defend. They all knew what they were doing and they were all taking up really positive positions.” [Kevin] Schade and [Yoane] Wissa positioned themselves centrally, effectively drawing in Leicester City’s three defenders and thereby creating ample space on the wings for the wide players. [Mikkel] Damsgaard operated in a number 10 area, with [Sepp] van den Berg frequently attracting the Leicester City full-backs, which opened up significant room for [Bryan] Mbeumo. Consequently, Brentford maintained a numerical advantage in the box because one of their players was consistently marked by two Leicester City opponents. When Damsgaard turned, he consistently sought out one of the four forward-thinking players, aiming to execute his highly effective sideward passes. Their play was notably positive, demonstrating the successful application of their training ground practices. This consistent execution was observed throughout the entire game. They exhibited a readiness to build play from the back and assume risks, supported by the defenders’ timely return to their positions. Dublin concluded that had they sustained that level of play throughout the day, they would have continued to score an increasing number of goals.
