Confirmation has been received that the bus station at Bradford Interchange will fully recommence operations nearly one year after its closure. The facility was initially shut down on 4 January due to structural damage, and a gradual reopening process is currently in progress. During a meeting of the West Yorkshire Combined Authority (WYCA) held on Thursday, the date of 5 January 2025 received approval for the complete resumption of services at the bus station. Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin, who presided over the meeting, stated: “I really do recognise the challenge for the travelling public by this closure and appreciate their patience.” The terminus ceased operations in early January subsequent to a piece of concrete detaching and falling into the car park situated beneath the structure. After its closure, structural assessments determined that the interchange could be safely reactivated once “mitigation measures in place” were implemented. The station’s lower concourse became accessible again for rail passengers on 28 October. Nevertheless, the WYCA meeting was informed that although 23 of the 29 bus stands are scheduled to reopen in January, six will continue to be unavailable until at least April 2025. It was also communicated that additional discussions are still required regarding compensation for retailers operating at the station. The total financial impact of the closure is projected to be a minimum of £500,000. During the meeting, Susan Hinchcliffe, who serves as the leader of Bradford Council, underscored the significance of maintaining public awareness throughout the station’s reopening process. She stated: “Constant communication, even if there is very little to say, is going to be vital.” An update posted on the First Bus website subsequent to the meeting conveyed: “We are now working to plan arrangements for the return of services to the bus station and full details will be made available as soon as this is completed.” Post navigation Historic Lake District Postcards Collection Unveiled Online Blue Islands to Launch New Flights to Newcastle
