A festival fund totaling £95,000 has been established to back 10 cultural events throughout Bradford during its tenure as UK City of Culture 2025. This financial support, distributed in grants ranging from £5,000 to £10,000, aims to enable festivals to enhance their scope and represents “a chance for creativity to thrive”. Councillor Sarah Ferriby, who serves as the executive member for healthy people and places, stated that these grants would empower organizations and individuals to enhance their festivals or events and contribute to communities. She remarked: “Bradford has a rich heritage of an amazing range of festivals and events which provide lots of opportunities for residents to have fun while celebrating and sharing cultural activities.” Bradford Council reports that the city hosts over 30 festivals annually. The council indicated that its Culture Is Our Plan initiative is intended to “celebrate the rich plethora of cultures we have in our district”. The council plans to consider proposals for festivals or events that demonstrate a “strong arts, culture and heritage provision or have an ambition to increase the arts, culture and heritage provision as part of the programme”. It specified an interest in funding existing events to expand their capabilities and expressed particular encouragement for applications from events with established audiences, involvement of multiple partners, and those investigating further funding avenues. Furthermore, applicants will be required to show prior experience in executing their proposed activity or in having previously organized festivals and events of a comparable magnitude. The council noted that while groups would probably need to secure supplementary funds, this was not a mandatory condition for receiving the grants. Submissions for applications are open until 2 February 2025, with successful applicants to be notified during February. The selected events are scheduled to occur between April and November 2025.
