A deal has been finalized for a residential and leisure complex comprising 1,000 homes in Bradford. This agreement, accepted by Bradford Council, West Yorkshire Combined Authority, and the English Cities Fund, marks the commencement of the initial stage of the £30m project. The development, named City Village, is planned to feature affordable housing, alongside three new parks and public areas, retail outlets, cafes, restaurants, and office spaces. Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, the council leader, stated: “City Village is a transformative regeneration programme which will redefine the city centre.” She further remarked: “While housing is at the heart of these plans, City Village will also create opportunities for new independent retail, cafes, bars and business spaces in a city that in 2025 will become the UK’s number one cultural destination.” She continued: “It shows the direction of Bradford for the next 10 years – quality housing, more public and green spaces with a strong cultural offer, creating the quality of city centre living that our residents need and deserve.” She concluded: “We’re delighted to be moving forward on City Village, as part of a much bigger picture of regeneration across Bradford with current programmes like One City Park complete, and the pedestrianisation works due to finish soon.” Bradford Council had previously indicated that funding would be allocated for the demolition of the Oastler and Kirkgate shopping centre sites, forming part of the preliminary work for the scheme. The commencement of construction is anticipated in 2027, with work projected to span a period of ten years. The regeneration area, covering 25 hectares, is situated between Centenary Square and Forster Square Station, and historically served as the city’s retail district. The Oastler and Kirkgate sites, along with land off Chain Street, all council-owned, have been designated for this development. Tracy Brabin, the mayor of West Yorkshire, commented: “Thanks to partnership working and the power of devolution, we’re unlocking millions of pounds of investment to regenerate communities, raise living standards, build more homes and grow our economy. “Bradford City Village will be a gamechanger for West Yorkshire as we work to build a stronger, brighter region.”” Post navigation Community Dispute Arises Over Unauthorised Traveller Site Work Proposed Development of Up to 350 Homes to Connect Leicestershire Settlements
